After the bell sounded at the end of the second round, Britton accompanied Lewis to the latter's corner and protested against the mouthpiece Lewis was using. Britton then punched of Lewis's seconds. This bout resulted in the NYSAC banning the use of mouthguards on Feb. 12.
The next day, the New York Times reported that Britton had engaged in 432 bouts over the course of 18 years, at an average of 24 per year. It also reported that this was the boxers' 20th battle together.
