Jack Carroll 147 lbs beat Willard Brown 144 lbs by TKO in round 12 of 15

  • Date: 1935-03-04
  • Location: Sydney Stadium, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
  • Referee: Joe Wallis

"Willard Brown was badly beaten by Jack Carroll on Monday night at Sydney Stadium. Cut eyes and a damaged nose caused a halt at the end of the 12th round. Brown showed up well for a while, but it was a one-sided finish, and proved conclusively that we have a world's champion in our midst. For the first five rounds Brown gave a good display. In the 2nd Brown used his left to advantage, and frequently frustrated Carroll using that annoying left of his. It was in the 3rd round that Brown scored with two hands and had Carroll on the retreat. But that was the first minute. Carroll came back and scored effectively, opening Brown's right eye. In the 7th round Brown's left eye was opened, and for the remainder of the rounds both bled profusely. Brown fought gamely and had the sympathy of the crowd. His eyes were bleeding and nobody complained when a halt was called at the end of the 12th round." -The Sydney Sportsman

  • Two weeks earlier Brown had won a 15 round decision over Bobby Wilson in Sydney. But due to the roughness of the bout a ringside physician forbade Brown for fighting for at least a month. Advice Brown disregarded.
