The Racine Journal-News:

Jack Dempsey, the California Submarine, knocked out Jack McCarthy, said to be of Montana, with a left swing to the jaw in twenty seconds after the men met in the ring here last night for a bout scheduled to go twenty rounds.
Dempsey sized up McCarthy for an instant and then rushed at him. He swung a terrific blow on McCarthy’s stomach which just grazed his body. He followed with a left swing which caught the Montana man on the jaw and he went down for the count. McCarthy was knocked under the ropes. He did not strike a blow.

The Salt Lake Tribune said Dempsey fought Tom McCarthy of Montana, and the Tulsa Daily World said his opponent was Tom McCarthy of Seattle.
