The San Francisco Chronicle reported:
Belated rushes and wild swings by Willie Meehan availed to secure for that stout young man a draw against Jack Dempsey at Dreamland Rink last night. It was a good decision and a slow match. Dempsey worked a good uppercut in the first two rounds to take a shade, but Meehan rallied at the close to even the bout.
The Oakland Tribune reported:
Willie Meehan and Jack Dempsey participated in another of those things that transbay promoters like to call fights last night, but they fooled nobody but themselves. The fight was declared a draw and nobody took enough interest to care whether the decision was right. The fans about the ring seemed to take more interest in discussions as to the relative merits of Battling Ortega and Willie Ritchie, who meet next Monday afternoon in the Admission Day fight card at Emeryville on this side of the bay.
All of this talk of Jack Kearns about Jack Dempsey's great submarine prowess must be right; if he has any prowess it is submerged somewhere and cannot be seen. Dempsey took a lead in the first two rounds and then could not even hold Meehan even in the last two rounds. That's enough for any of the fans who know Meehan.
