Jack Doyle 209 lbs beat Jack Redman 183 lbs by KO in round 4 of 6

  • Date: 1935-07-15
  • Location: Meadowbrook Field, Newark, New Jersey, USA
  • Notes

Redman (Redmond) was the master for three rounds, landing a hard left hook with regularity. But in the fourth Doyle connected with a right to the chin which dropped Redman and his head hit the canvas with a thud. He got up but was met with another right that knocked him into the ropes and then a third which knocked him out of the ring and caused him to roll under the working press table, where he was counted out. Some viewers thought that Doyle should have been disqualified for landing the final blow because, according to New Jersey rules, a man was down when hanging helplessly on the ropes. Doyle looked to be overweight and his wind was poor.
