- Date: 1966-12-08
- Location: Njaardhallen, Oslo, Norway
Norwegian middleweight Roy Askvold (11-3-1) faced the Curacao- born Jack Johnson (7-5-1) in the Njaardhall on Oslo's West side. In his hometown Willemstad in Curacao Johnson had impressive wins in the early 60's over Aruban Sugar Boy Nando, American veterans Jimmy Beecham and Randy Sandy. In november 1966 he settled down in Germany and lost to German champ Jupp Elze. The fight against Askvold was his second in Europe.
The crowd booed Johnson angrily after the 1st where he did nothing. Suddenly in the 2nd Johnson decided that he had figured out the stocky and quite open Norwegian. A smashing left hook brought Askvold backwards. He fell out of the ring, the back of his head hitting the planks with an ugly sound. It took several minutes to relieve him. It marked the end of his career, although he returned to the ring five years later, but on a less ambitious scale.
Johnson fought in Europe until retirement in 1969. not fulfilling the promise from his early days, ending with an official 13-18-3 record.
