Jack McVey 165 lbs fought without result Ace Hudkins 161 lbs by NC at 2:30 in round 10 of 10
- Date: 1930-08-26
- Location: Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA
- Referee: Jack Kennedy
Referee Lt. Jack Kennedy (a lieutenant in the United States Navy) said the bout was nothing but a dancing act. He declared he heard McVey whisper to Hudkins during a clinch in the ninth round, "This is your round, Ace." Then he saw McVey accept a tap from Hudkins and roll over on the canvas for a count of eight. He finally roared "No Contest" to the 7,500 fans - who had themselves been shouting "Fake! Fake!" - and motioned them to silence. "These two men were talking to each other for four out of the ten rounds," he said. "From the second round on they were not trying. I let the affair go, thinking they might decide to start fighting. They didn't, so I threw them out." (UP) As a result of the decision, both boxers were automatically suspended and their purses withheld.
