The February 20 1926 Lethbridge Herald reported that around 2 A.M. in the morning union organizer Jack Nolan, aged 35, had been shot at Drumheller, Alberta, by Police Constable McKeen during a struggle. Nolan had allegedly attacked McKeen after being arrested for assault on a warrant, whereupon he was shot in the abdomen. Nolan died within half an hour. McKeen was later charged and acquitted of manslaughter but the judge in his trial advised him to quit the force because of his actions in the case.
