"Three weeks of intensive training paid off for big Jack O'Halloran, who now wears the crown as California heavyweight champion. O'Halloran came on strong in the late rounds by scoring uppercuts to snatch the title from Henry Clark in a 12 round split decision last night. Clark made a bid to rally in the 7th round, but O'Halloran apparently won the fight with his game effort in the last two rounds. There were no knockdowns in the fight, although it was a bruising battle. Clark seemed sluggish and unable to get going, and complained afterwards of rough tactics. However, both received warnings from referee Hal Rickards." -Associated Press

Post fight comments
- "I was determined to be the aggressor for the entire fight and I was. I felt I'd win it on that alone. But I'll say this for Clark: He didn't give up his title easily." -Jack O'Halloran
- "Henry didn't deserve to get the decision because he didn't do anything out there. I've never seen him fight so bad." -Joe Herman, Clark's manager
