Jack Obermeyer (1944-2016) was a noted boxing writer from Staten Island, New York. Beginning in 1965, Obermeyer covered 3,914 boxing cards in 49 American states in over 400 cities. Obermeyer reported for Ring Magazine, Boxing Illustrated, Boxing Digest, USA Boxing and other publications. Obermeyer passed away of natural causes in his sleep on June 25, 2016, at his home on Staten Island, the morning of the Barclays Center Keith Thurman versus Shawn Porter CBS television prime time nine bout boxing card promoted by Lou DiBella Entertainment and Al Haymon's Premiere Boxing Champions which he was scheduled to cover for the press. Ring announcer David Diamante led the memorial ten count at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, for Obermeyer, with over twelve thousand boxing fans in attendance rising to their feet, as well as boxing journalists and ring officials, in tribute.
