Jack Perry, the well-known welterweight, was born in Thornton, West Virginia. During the early part of his career he made his headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, later moving on to Pittsburgh.

The welterweight Perry may easily be confused with other fighters of the same name who were active in the same time period. In particular, some of the fights of Jack Perry of Philadelphia, a featherweight, have been put into the welterweight Perry's record in RING BATTLES OF CENTURIES, Revised Edition. A Jack Perry who was a service light-heavyweight, fought Larry Estridge and Young Stribling, and his fights should not be attributed to the record of Jack Perry of Pittsburgh.

Sometimes after 1922 he is said to be from Buffalo. A biographical article on Perry appeared in the Pittsburgh Post, December 15, 1917.
