James 'Jack' Quarry, with son Jerry

James "Jack" Quarry, (July 14, 1922-January 21, 2006) was the hard-nosed father of boxers Jerry, Mike, and Bobby Quarry. Quarry was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma, where he lived before riding the rails out west to California at the age of 14. There he met and married Arwanda Tolbert, with whom he had eight children.

Quarry was an important influence on his sons' toughness, and instilled in them the Quarry mantra of "There's no quit in a Quarry." Jerry Quarry would become a top-rated Heavyweight contender of the late 1960s and early 1970s, twice challenging unsuccessfully for the Heavyweight title, while Mike would become a top-rated Light Heavyweight contender who was knocked out by Bob Foster in a bid for the world title.
