"Jack Sharkey, the Boston sailor man outpointed KO Christner, from Akron, Ohio, in a fierce 10 round encounter in MSG last night and cleared the way for his shot at Young Stribling on Feb. 27. Sharkey fought one of the strangest fights of his erratic career - a curious combination of wily caution and wild, berserk rage. Clearly Christner was outclassed so far as boxing skill and all-round ring class were concerned, but Sharkey was running into punches that knocked out Knute Hansen two months ago. Carrying the fight to Sharkey, Christner more than held his own during the first six rounds. But after the 6th the steady battering Christner had been subjected to began to take its toll. He tired badly in the last four rounds and Sharkey, throwing caution to the wind, elected to trade punches with him. The end of the gruelling bout found Christner standing up gamely under a withering fire from Sharkey's left and right hands." -Associated Press
