Jack Sharkey 198 lbs drew with Tony Shucco 182 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1936-04-14
  • Location: Boston Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA
  • Referee: Johnny Brassil

"Former world heavyweight champion Jack Sharkey and New England heavyweight titleholder Tony Shucco, battled savagely to a 10 round draw in their return bout before 8500 fans at the Garden tonight. The two judges, Francis Bowman and James Carrig, voted a draw, but referee Johnny Brassil voted for Sharkey. Under Massachusetts boxing laws, however, the judges verdict prevailed. Gunning for a knockout at the start, Sharkey tore at his opponent with at least a score of sweeping roundhouse rights which missed the target. Sharkey then resorted to infighting, with Shucco staking his chances on long-range fighting. Bitter feeling featured the battle as Sharkey claimed Shucco was punching low and the latter contended Sharkey was hitting as they came out of the clinches." -United Press
