(Sailor) Jack Silver was the elder brother of fellow fighter Joey Silver. Beating soon to be
Junior Welterweight Champion of the World Mushy Callanhan on July 5, 1926 in San Francisco and winning the Lightweight
Championship of the Pacific Coast had to be one of the highlights of Silver's career, if not the highlight. Silver started
boxing in 1921 while he was stationed on the USS California.
He became a referee and judge for the California State Athletic Commission, working out of the Bay Area.
During his boxing and officiating career, there was a Jack Silva who boxed at the same time, and officiated with Jack Silver later as well, even on the same cards occasionally.
