According to the Dec. 3, 1947 Tacoma News Tribune (TNT)(Tacoma, WA, USA), Snapp had abandoned a promising football career the year before at Idaho State College. From Klamath Falls, Oregon, "Ginger" Snapp was a regular halfback for two years at the Pocatello school, but he preferred boxing.
He had been boxing professionally for just 11 months at this time, per the newspaper, and had 17 KOs in 22 starts, won four decisions, and "lost an unpopular verdict to one Emory Jackson, who he subsequently knocked out in four rounds."
By early 1950 he was attending Southern Oregon College of Education and coaching the boxing squad on the side. March 13 TNT. Per the August 8, 1952 Klamath Falls Herald, Snapp had recently finished up a year of school at the University of Southern California, and was a physical education instructor.
