Joaquin "Jack" Torres or The "Mexican Mist" Jack Torres, of Old Town, Albuquerque, has been called the first world-class fighter born, raised and groomed in New Mexico. Torres was known for his piston-like jab and blazing right crosses. By some accounts, Torres might have had the ability to mix with the top welterweight of his day, but injuries derailed his career.

Torres reportedly began his boxing career in 1912 and defeated his first opponent in 11 seconds. In 1913, he was said to have fought 10 times.
