A member of Long Tower Boxing Club, he had Olympic aspirations and had fought throughout Ireland and represented the club in Liverpool.
Jackie was 17-years-old and the first person to die on Bloody Sunday, 30 January 1972. With no interest in politics, Jackie had attended the anti-internment march against his father’s advice, ‘for the craic’. He was murdered as he ran through Rossville car park.
