"Jake LaMotta of New York, who scored a TKO in the 8th round over Joey DeJohn last night, planned today to begin training soon for his proposed middleweight title fight with Marcel Cerdan at Detroit on June 15. The largest indoor sports crowd in Syracuse history saw LaMotta floor DeJohn of Syracuse twice in the 7th round and three times in the 8th. In the early rounds the fans shook the girders of the State Fair Coliseum with their yells when DeJohn forced the fighting and tried desperately to score a knockout. He ran out of gas in the 7th session. The referee stopped the bout, according to commission rules, when DeJohn was on the floor for the 3rd time in the 8th." -United Press
