"Jake LaMotta, 161, of the Bronx, made it three in a row over welterweight Tommy Bell, 151 1/4, of Youngstown, Ohio, tonight with a 10-round decision in MSG, but had a tougher time than in either of their previous encounters. LaMotta worked over Tommy's body in the early going, putting him on the floor twice. With tonight's win - his third in two years over Bell - LaMotta just about won permanent possession of Tommy, although there were a few moments when the Ohioan almost put a crack in the concrete that Jake is reputed to be made of. Apparently believing he had no chance for a decision, Tommy had his hard one unfurled all the way and practically from start to finish tried to put over the haymaker." -Associated Press
- One of the officials actually scored it even in rounds but employing NY's supplemental system, had LaMotta ahead 6-5
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 5-3-2 LaMotta
