James Birse, 27 years old, was killed August 16, 1931 when his car swerved off the road and overturned in a ditch. He was accompanied by his fiance whom he was to have married on Sept. 17. He was at one time the Canadian flyweight champion and fought under the name of Jimmy Britt.
