Bout Summary
De La Rosa came out behind a long left jab, but it was the left to the body that he continued to apply along with hard straight right hand. Those three punches played out as his bread and butter in various combinations as De La Rosa built a lead through the first six minutes. He added on with a dominant third round as well, though not without difficulty. De La Rosa caught a hard right hand from Wilson on his way in that momentarily stunned him; De La Rosa wisely tied his man up before further damage could be tallied. By the fourth round, Wilson had settled almost entirely into opponent mode, firing only enough to keep De La Rosa honest. De La Rosa didn’t appear to be hurting Wilson, who has rarely been on the floor and never stopped. A hard left uppercut against the ropes stood Wilson up at the end of the fifth round; another strong performance in the sixth round left Wilson in full backpedal, his arms remaining as high and tight as they had all night. While similarly steady over the final two rounds, the knockout was not to be as De La Rosa was forced to settle for the unanimous shutout, 80-72, on all three cards.
