James Roper Travers, 83, of the 800 block of Clinton Street, died Oct. 5, 1997, in Chesapeake. Mr. Travers, a Baptist, was born in Berkley, VA, and was the widower of Theresa A. Travers. He had retired as superintendent of the Rigger Shop, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and was an Army veteran.Survivors include two daughters, Alice Marcum and her husband, Billy of Chesapeake and Ann Tatem and her husband, Marshall of Virginia Beach; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
