In an eliminator for the European lightweight title held by Spaniard Pedro Carrasco, the Norwegian Tore Magnussen outpointed the Finn Jarmo Berglöf over 10 rounds. Magnussen won the first on his fast left jabs. In the 2nd, he followed up with a right cross and a right hook to the body. Bergloef was shaken and in the interval his wife and PR- secretary was in his corner. He tried to take initiative in the 3rd but was countered. Two more hooks shook the Finn in the 5th. His only good winning round was the 7th when hard body blows made Magnussen lose his style. Magnussen regained his pose and hit Bergloef at will. The Finn tried desperately for KO in the 9th, missing time and again. The last round saw Bergloef surviving on his stamina alone.

Referee and sole judge was Jean Deswert of Belgium.

In the other eliminator for Carrasco's title, Kid Tano of Spain outpointed the Italian Bruno Melissano in Las Palmas in September.
