Interview
– How did your boxing adventure begin? – we ask J. Poznański.
"Back in my hometown of Stargard, I had two uncles, coaches for the Błękitni team: Antoni Hancewicz, a boxing player, and Leon Hancewicz, a football player. Initially, the latter had a greater influence on me, and I played goalkeeper in sneakers, but later I began to enjoy boxing more, and my first successes, noticed not only in our region, came."
– What were the manifestations of this?
"Back then, boxing leagues were very active and enjoyed huge audience interest, which naturally meant transfers. I received an offer from the other side of Poland from the renowned boxer and later coach Zbigniew Pietrzykowski, a four-time European champion and three-time Olympic medalist, so I checked in at BBTS Bielsko-Biała training. This sparked an immediate reaction in Szczecin, and the well-known activist Bolesław Idziak made me an offer I couldn't refuse: either I join Pogoń Szczecin or face a two-year ban. In this situation, I decided to become a port worker and fought for Pogoń until the end of 1973, and in January, we were transferred with the entire team to Stal Stocznia. Pogoń, on the other hand, limited its boxing activities to youth work. At the end of my career, however, I returned to Pogoń, which reactivated its senior section in the early 1980s, and I was both a player and a coach.
– Please tell us a few words about your long coaching career.
"At Pogoń, I combined boxing with coaching for a very short time and quickly focused on my coaching role. My next club was Sztorm Szczecin, and for the past few years I've been associated with Skorpion Szczecin. I've also been an assistant coach for the Polish national team in younger age groups and for the women's team on numerous occasions. I recently returned from Anapa, Russia, where I was the cornerman for Szczecin's Daria Parada, who won the gold medal at the European Cadet Championships there."
– What will you do when you retire?
– I’ll rest a bit, but I’m drawn to the ring, so I’m waiting for offers…
