  • Pagara is coming off a first-round knockout victory of Indonesian Billy Sumba more than 2 months ago, while Njiku is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision win against fellow Tanzanian Mshihiri Kidila 7 months ago.
  • This would be Pagara's first fight against a Tanzanian. He carries a record of 9-0 (6 KOs) against non-Filipino opponents heading into the fight.
  • This would be Njiku's first fight against a Filipino, as well as his first fight in the Philippines. Njiku is 0-1 when fighting outside his native Tanzania heading into the fight.

Bout Summary

  • Pagara came out jabbing and throwing 1-2 combinations to start the first round, while Njiku kept constant head-movement to evade and confuse Pagara. A 1-2 combination in the middle of the round dropped Njiku for the first time. He easily beat the count with a little over a minute left in the first round. A counter left hook near the end of the round dropped Njiku for a second time. Njiku managed to beat the count for a second time and survive the last 15 seconds of the round.
  • In the first half of Round 2, Njiku failed to do any damage against Pagara but he was a bit more aggressive and actually landed a few good shots of his own, but that all ended when another counter left hook caught Njiku as he was coming in. Njiku failed to beat the count, as he was still shaken from the punch.
  • With the win, Pagara gets his 14th straight victory and his fifth straight by knockout since his first and only loss more than 3 years ago. Pagara also claimed the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Youth Light Welterweight Title with the win.
