- Pagara is coming off a second-round technical knockout win of fellow Filipino Romeo Jakosalem about 2 months ago. This would be the first time Pagara would be facing a South Korean opponent. Pagara is currently undefeated against non-Filipino opponents with a record of 6-0 (3 KOs).
- Kim is coming off a first-round technical knockout win of fellow South Korean Sun-Haeng Lee about 10 months ago, in his fourth successful defense of the Korean Light Welterweight Title. This would be Kim's first fight outside South Korea, as well as his first fight against a non-South Korean opponent.
Bout Summary
- In Round 1, Pagara seemed off and seemed to be frustrated with Kim's height and aggressiveness. Kim threw combinations and kept Pagara back-pedaling the rest of the round. In Round 2, momentum started to go Pagara's way. He came out more aggressive, throwing many sharp combinations to Kim's face. He picked off Kim with these combinations, causing several cuts on Kim's eyelids. The ringside physician called a halt to the bout after he determined that Kim would be unable to continue from the cuts, and since the cuts were caused by legal punches from Pagara, Pagara was awarded the second-round technical knockout win.
- With the win, Pagara gets his second straight knockout victory, as well as his 11th straight win since his only loss more than 2 1/2 years ago. With the fight ending at 2:18 of Round 2, this becomes the earliest knockout loss to date for Kim, who lost by fourth-round knockout more than 4 1/2 years ago in his only loss before the fight.
