  • Date: 1966-04-25
  • Location: Palais des Sports, Paris, Paris, France
  • "France's first serious contender for a world title since Alphonse Halimi in '59 was unveiled here when Jean Josselin acquired the vacant European welterweight title by forcing the British entry, Brian Curvis, to retire after the 13th round in an upset. With his aggressiveness and southpaw style, Curvis was in front for five rounds, but he gradually tired. From the 6th round on, Josselin was in charge of operations. Once Josselin solved Curvis' left-handed style, the bout became one-sided. The Frenchman stepped up the pace and tossed a thorough lacing into his Welsh opponent. When the bell sounded for the 14th session, Curvis conceded defeat. His face was a mass of cuts and bruises." -Ring Magazine, July 1966 issue

    • The European title was left vacant when the reigning champ, Fortunato Manca of Italy, announced his retirement several months before this bout.
