Notes

Bout Summary

Harding came forward in the opening round working behind a jab. A pair of good jabs followed by a straight right hand that glanced off Collins' shoulder and landed on the top of his head sent him off balance midway through the opening round and caused his gloves to momentarily touch the mat. He received a mandatory eight-count and already appeared to be a bit winded. Collins came forward following the scored knockdown and threw power punches with some success. Harding withstood and returned with heavy punches of his own. Collins, fully covered, retreated to the ropes for the final 0:18 of the round as Harding threw and landed some to the body. Following the round, Collins' corner complained that their man was hit after the bell.
Harding continued to apply pressure in Round 2 and seemed to hurt Collins with stiff jabs. Collins retaliated with wide punches as neither fighter made defense a priority. A big right hand at 0:45 of Round 2 caught Harding flush on the jaw and badly wobbled him. The punch too opened a small cut in the corner of Harding's left eye. Harding was able to keep his feet and returned punches, before a right hook, left hook combination again rocked him at 1:52 of the round. Harding responded, however, by landing some power shots of his own against an already tiring Collins. A right hand from Harding sent Collins reeling and into the ropes in the final 20 seconds of the round.
Prior to the start of round three and to a chorus of boos, it was announced that Tom Collins had retired on the stool.
