Jeff Merritt 213 lbs beat Eddie Vick 201 lbs by TKO at 1:45 in round 4 of 10

  • Date: 1970-05-19
  • Location: Auditorium, Miami Beach, Florida, USA
  • Referee: Cy Gottfried

"Jeff Meritt, 212, of NYC, floored veteran Eddie Vick, 200, of Rochester, NY, twice in the 4th round to halt him as referee Cy Gottfried called it over as the rubber-legged, bleary-eyed Vick staggered to his feet after the second knockdown at 1:45 of the round. Merritt was given trouble by the cutie Vick for three rounds. Eddie stayed low and avoided most of the telling blows thrown by Jeff, although he did get hit with a number of left jabs. Early in the 4th Jeff feinted with his left and drove home a hard right lead to the chin, spilling Eddie for the mandatory eight count. Vick fell into a clinch and then tried to cover up, but Jeff held him off with his long left and crossed his right to the jaw dropping Vick again, Vick was bleeding heavily from the mouth as he just beat the ten count. Gottfried wisely stepped in and stopped it." -Boxing Illustrated, August 1970 issue
