Career Review

Jerry Powers was a Miami, Florida club-fighter who developed a cult following among hardcore South Florida boxing fans. His style was similar to Joe Frazier's; always coming straight ahead, bobbing and weaving, and throwing punches. However, Powers lacked a knockout punch.

Powers set a record when he fought 44 times in one year; the vast majority of his fights were 4 and 6 rounders. He fought world champions Willie Pep (in an exhibition) and Alfonso Frazer. During the mid 1970s he worked at Big Daddy's Hot-Dog Restaurant on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach for the colorful "Big Daddy" Knapp.
