"Jerry Quarry softened up Randy Neumann with hard body blows early in the fight then finished his opponent with a two-fisted attack to the head that forced ring physician, Dr. Edwin Campbell, to stop the bout before the bell sounded for the 8th round. A hard right to the body by Quarry followed by a double left hook hurt Neumann early in the 7th and then another left and an uppercut almost put Neumann down. Quarry barreled in for the kill and scored at will, winging shots from all angles as he used the dazed Neumann as a punching bag. With blood gushing from his nose and small cuts about the eyes, Neumann still managed to survive the assault and never went down. Many in the crowd of 6,190 were screaming for referee Tony Perez to stop the fight, but it wasn't until Campbell examined Neumann in between rounds that the final decision was made." -United Press International
