"Irish Jerry Quarry, the heavyweight hope from Paramount, came off with a draw in his 10 rounder against Utah's Tony Doyle in the most remarkable hometown decision Los Angeles has seen in years before 6,000 at Olympic Auditorium Thursday night. The 191 pound Quarry was pounded, and in retreat most of the night as his tall, long armed opponent crowded him against the ropes and held him at range with a lightning left hand. Quarry, going in with 12 consecutive victories since turning pro in May, had his only moments midway in the 4th when he slammed a right uppercut to Doyle's jaw which sent Tony crashing to the canvas. Quarry was bleeding badly from the nose from the 2nd round on and his only defense against Doyle's long lefts and rights seemed to be to double in a crouch." -Long Beach Press-Telegram
