"Jerry Quarry knocked down Tony Doyle twice and then stopped him in the 4th round of a scheduled 10 round fight at the Forum Monday night. Referee John Thomas stopped the fight at 1:38 of the 4th with Doyle helpless in a corner. Quarry, the No. 4 ranked heavyweight contender, knocked down Doyle with a left hook near the end of the 1st round. The Salt Lake City fighter got up at five just as the bell rang. In the 4th round, Quarry, a Californian who fights out of NY, knocked Doyle down at 1:10 with a flurry of hooks and right hands to the head. Doyle was up at five, then took eight solid shots to the head before the bout was stopped." -Associated Press
