Jesse Burnett 172 lbs beat Ray White 172 lbs by KO in round 8 of 10

  • Date: 1974-03-15
  • Location: Coliseum, San Diego, California, USA
  • Referee: George Latka

"Unbeaten Jesse Burnett of Los Angeles scored an 8th round knockout Friday night over clowning Ray "Windmill" White, whose antics backfired when the referee apparently mistook a fake KO for the real thing. Burnett dominated the fight, flooring White with a left hook in the 2nd round and moving inside the jabs of the taller White. Then in the 8th round, White took what appeared to be a solid right to the jaw, fell heavily and lay motionless. Referee George Latka didn't bother to count, but waved his hands to indicate the fight was over. White suddenly came to life at what might have been the count of three and leaped to his feet in protest. "I wasn't hurt," he screamed. "I was only faking." -Associated Press
