Jesus Pimentel 119 lbs beat Mamoru Minami 120 lbs by KO at 2:58 in round 4 of 10
- Date: 1971-04-16
- Location: Municipal Auditorium, San Antonio, Texas, USA
- Referee: Lou Johnson
"Jesus Pimental scored a 4th round knockout on promoter Tony Padilla's boxing show Friday night at the Municipal Auditorium. A left hook staggered Mamoru Minami early in the 3rd round and Pimental, the No. 1 challenger for the bantamweight crown, warmed up to the task. He opened a small cut over Minami's left eye but the aggressive Japanese fighter finished the round strong. He wasn't quite so strong when Jess dug a left hook to the body late in the 4th round, then followed with a right cross to the jaw that sent Minami sprawling on the canvas. Minami was on his knees, an agonizing look on his face, when referee Lou Johnson reached the count of 10 with only two seconds remaining in the round." -San Antonio Light
- Pimental's manager, Harry Kabakoff, announced after the bout that Pimental would be meeting world flyweight champion Masao Oba in a non-title 10 rounder in Los Angeles in late May. However, this bout failed to materialize.
