"Yoshio Nakane of Tokyo, winning almost every round, scored a stunning unanimous decision Sunday night over Jesus Pimental of Mexico, the WBA's top-ranked bantamweight contender. Nakane, using a lightning-fast left jab and looping overhand rights, kept the harder hitting Pimental from finding the range for most of the 12 round fight. There was only one knockdown, which was strongly protested by Nakane, in the fast-paced bout which saw both fighters bloodied at various times. Pimental scored what seemed to be a shoving right hand blow in the final round as the two fighters came off the ropes. Nakane fell to one knee but jumped up quickly and protested as referee Gonzalo DeLaVega made him take a mandatory eight-count. Pimental was cut under the left eye in the 3rd round as Nakane scored with right hands over Pimental's left jabs. This cut and another Pimental received above the left eye later in the fight didn't seem to hamper him. Nakane suffered small cuts over both eyes late in the fight as Pimental began finding the range with hard lefts and rights." -Associated Press
