"Mexico's bantamweight champion, Chucho Castillo, 118, scored a unanimous one-sided decision Friday night over Jesus Pimental, 117 1/2, of Mexico, the No. 1 contender in their bantamweight elimination fight at the Forum. Castillo inflicted bloody damage on Pimental and doubtless earned a shot at world champion Lionel Rose this summer. There were no knockdowns but the crowd was in an uproar from the opening bell to the finish. Pimental, game to the end, bled from the nose and a badly cut left eye from the 5th round on. Pimental tried desperately but Castillo was too fast, both with his fists and his feet. Several times he had the favored Pimental hurt but was never able to put him down." -Pasadena Star-News
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 11-0 Castillo
- Attendance - 16,505

- "I was in perfect condition and have no excuses. I still feel I am capable of fighting my way back to become a top contender." -Jesus Pimental
