Jill Matthews is notable for being one of the first women boxers in the United States to garner respect and help popularize women boxing. She was also one of the top female boxers of the 1990's. Matthews won the first Women’s Golden Glove title in New York State boxing history on April 7, 1995 in the 101lbs final against Dee Hamaguchi winning by knockout in the first rd! Mathews had an amateur record of six wins with two losses and one draw before she turned pro. A two time World Champion as a Light Flyweight. Matthews won the WIBF and the IFBA Light Flyweight World Titles in 1998! Matthews was just inducted into the Women's International Boxing Hall of Fame!
