Jim Watt 136 lbs beat Andries Steyn 137 lbs by TKO in round 7 of 10
- Date: 1974-02-16
- Location: Rand Stadium, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa
- This bout was fought on the undercard to the 10 round non-title bout between world bantamweight champion Arnold Taylor and Guy Caudron.
"Andries Steyn, South African lightweight champion, suffered a bad cut over his right eye in a clash of heads in his bout with Scotland's Jim Watt in the 3rd round and even though Steyn was leading in the 7th, the bout was stopped when the referee called in the South African Board doctor who halted the bout. With the bout fought at an even keel Steyn came back to his corner at the end of the 3rd with blood dripping from his eye but went on in the 4th to more than hold his own. In the 6th Steyn had made such a comeback that Watt began to look shaky in his legs via a left hook followed by combinations. The 7th was a blood bath until the stoppage and Watt looked crestfallen that the bout ended in that manner." -Ring Magazine, July 1974 issue
