"Bob Baker, the nation's 4th ranking heavyweight, was a step closer to a title shot today after winning a unanimous 10 round decision over Jimmy Bivins at the Gardens here. The 217 lb. negro had a 31 lb. weight advantage over his Cleveland opponent as he won his 25th consecutive professional bout in as many starts last night. Baker was close to a knockout in the 8th when he staggered Bivins with a left and pummeled him against the ropes. However, Bivins' experience and ring savvy helped him weather the storm as he parried most of the blows. Baker was effective with his long range blows but Bivins nullified Baker's aggressiveness when he resorted to infighting. Bivins slipped to the canvas in the 2nd round - but there was no count. That was the only time either fighter hit the floor." -United Press
