Jimmy Brown began boxing in the Navy during 1919-20, before returning home to Cincinnati to begin his pro career. In 1927, Brown was appointed the instructor at the L.B. Harrison Club. He was named the boxing instructor for the Catholic Youth Organization of Cincinnati in 1936. Brown who was white, is not to be confused with another Jimmy Brown, who was black, whose career began in the late 1920s.
