"Jimmy Dupree of Jersey City, NJ, avenged an old loss to Johnny Persol by stopping the former contender from NY in 1:17 of the 7th round of a 10 rounder. Persol had been knocked down for a count of eight by a wicked left hook to the jaw in the closing minutes of the 6th round. He got up on rubbery legs just before the bell sounded. Dupree then pinned Persol in a corner and hit him with several good shots in the 7th round." -Associated Press
- Referee Zach Clayton did not intervene, but Deputy Commissioner Al Snyder, acting at the request of Persol's co-manager and trainer, Gil Clancy, entered the ring followed by Dr. Harry Kleiman and stopped the bout.
- This bout was fought on the undercard of the Emile Griffith v Kitten Hayward rematch.
