"Undefeated Mike Quarry was awarded a technical decision last night over North American light-heavyweight champion Jimmy Dupree when their bout was halted at 2:08 of the fifth round due to an unintentional butt by Dupree which opened a deep cut over Quarry's eye. Quarry was ahead on points at the time the fight was stopped and under California regulations he was awarded the decision because he was unable to continue."
