"Britain's Joe Bugner, the European heavyweight champion, fought to a grueling 10 round decision over former WBA titleholder Jimmy Ellis of Miami, Fla., at Wembley Pool Tuesday night. Bugner was looking for an impressive win over 34 year old Ellis in order to gain a shot at Muhammad Ali's crown. Bugner scored a 100-96 victory on British referee Sid Nathan's card after dropping Ellis midway through the last round. Ellis was floored by a vicious right to the body. he got up before the count started." -Associated Press
