Jimmy McLarnin beat Jimmy Griffiths by PTS in round 4 of 4

  • Date: 1924-05-02
  • Location: L Street Arena, Sacramento, California, USA
  • "The most impressive showing of the evening was that of little Jimmy McLarnin, pride of Belfast, Ireland, when he won over Kid Griffiths, of Oakland. The little mick, who has just passed his 16th birthday, was the picture of speed and aggressiveness. He weaved in and out of Griffiths, landing his left with lightning velocity to the head. The little boy is not supposed to pack much of a wallop but in the third he brought over a couple to the Oaklander's chin that had him going back. He followed up his advantage with an attack to the stomach but could not quite get over the fadeout punch.

"Watch this little fellow. He is not going to stay a flyweight forever but, if he is not pushed too fast, when he really gets his growth, he will be a hard lightweight to beat. We vote it the best bout on a card that was complete with many good contests." Sacramento Star
