Jimmy McLarnin 135 lbs beat Louis 'Kid' Kaplan 136 lbs by KO in round 8 of 10

  • Date: 1927-10-18
  • Location: Coliseum, Chicago, Illinois, USA
  • "Kid Kaplan of Meriden, Conn., who retired undefeated from the featherweight ranks and who is now seeking a shot at the lightweight crown, had a serious sprag put in his fistic ambitions Tuesday night when he was knocked out by Jimmy McLarnin, Pacific Coast sensation, in the 8th round of their bout here. Kaplan offered solid resistance at the start, but faded under the McLarnin whaling. Kaplan knocked McLarnin down once in the 1st round and again in the 2nd, only to have Jimmy come back with a power that would not be stopped. McLarnin dropped Kaplan in the 4th for a three count. In the 5th he repeated, only Kaplan stayed down for nine. Hard rights did the work both times. In the 8th another solid right crumpled Kaplan, but he staggered up at nine. A hard right cross to the jaw caught him, and that time he was counted out." - Associated Press
