Jimmy McVeigh got most of his early boxing experience as a sparring partner for Willie Ritchie. [4] [5]

He had started out as a bantam, but by the summer of 1913 had "taken on considerable weight" and was closer to a lightweight. [6]

On Dec. 21, 1914, some 250 friends assembled at the St. James Catholic Club to surprise McVeigh with a gold ring and to make speeches praising him as a boxer and as a friend. Newark Evening Star [7]

According to the 5 June 1927 Spokane Spokesman Review (Spokane, WA, USA), McVeigh had become Brother Benedict of the Xavmean Order. He was transferred to St. Mary's Industrial School (baseball legend Babe Ruth's old home), and was the physical instructor at St. Xavier's College, Louisville, KY.
