"Jimmy Slade scored a surprising 10 round decision over Clarence Henry in a nationally televised bout last night. Jimmy's speed had Henry baffled through half the fight and then he added to Henry's confusion by rallying with telling blows every time it appeared he had been hurt himself. Henry was the superior puncher all the way last night, but he didn't have enough opportunities to connect for it to do him too much good. Slade was devastating in attacking the body from the inside and danced away from almost everything Henry could throw at him. Slade gained a good deal of stature in upsetting Henry, who was being groomed as a possible challenger to heavyweight king Rocky Marciano." -Associated Press
