Jimmy Slade 180 lbs beat Tommy Jackson 190 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10

Because of this loss, Jackson lost a chance at a potential heavyweight title shot.

"Another upset victory over Tommy (Hurricane) Jackson today reinstated heavyweight Jimmy Slade of NY as one of boxing's greatest spoilers. Slade punched his way to a split 10 round decision over 3rd ranked Jackson Friday night in one of the year's greatest upsets. In Friday night's 'rubber match,' Slade once again called on his greater ring experience to outmaster Jackson's brute strength and whirlwind tactics. There were no knockdowns, but Slade was groggy and bleeding from the nose at the finish. Slade piled up his important points during the early rounds, tired slightly in the middle sessions and then had to overcome a strong late rally by Jackson, who probably sensed he needed a knockout to win." -United Press
